The ferry ride from Napoli is about 40 minutes. We arrived into the main port of Marina Grand, peak season, day trippers ~ it was a zoo. We jumped into a local ‘topless taxi’ and wound our way up to the Capri Wine Hotel.
Our hosts Raphaele and Elana, developed this hotel just over 3 years ago, on Raphaele’s great great grandfather’s land. It has an amazing history and we enjoy their gardens currently growing tomatoes and squash, and a few other staples. They are currently bottling their own red sauce for the winter, and to sit in the breakfast garden eating home made Apricot jam and Lemon Marmalade that tastes just like lemon meringue pie…….on toast, while you wait for your poached eggs and look down and see the stunning ocean and boats is just amazing.
In Capri you cannot build any new developments unless it’s a redevelop of current property.
Another day another Vespa. Only this time Steve is the rider……woo hoo I squealed riding those skinny roads and seeing that view!
Our friends we met in Bora Bora’s boat is here….. The Arctic P. I’m not sure if James Packer still owns this boat , it’s ugly as but wow has an amazing water slide.
At the top of the island is the main town, and a big roundabout, NOT! It’s really busy as it the main through fair to 3 different parts of the island . The tiny buses that are used here fit just on the narrow streets.
They only have 8 seats per bus and the rest of the crowds stands up ! Usually it’s only a 10 minute trip, however why be squished on the bus when you can enjoy a Vespa ride and get to see a lot of the island.
We had our first swim down at Faro where the lighthouse is. Climbed Mount Solaris via a chair lift to view the back of the island, went swimming again at Marina Piccola, where its check to jowl and why anyone would want to lie on rocks is beyond me! The water on the other hand is delightful and although it’s busy with boats and people, floating along in the Mediterranean is stunning , looking up at the cliffs staring out to the Farangoli Rock formations, contemplating where we are going to go for dinner….. Ahhhhhh this is holidays !
Ah the pressure
The food, the people and their stories are amazing and last night we had dinner in our own private dinning area! Well actually it was our back yard ….
Ah Milos, I’m not going to lie, in fact I may just be throwing…
